Alex, what are the .npr files please

Post by Pegleg »

Hi
Sorry but I messed up my database by letting it get to large ( I blame newspro cause there retenion time are now so long), now I've cut the retension to 7-14 and also cause I tried the auto get message bodies.

In the meantime i have somehow gotten lots and lots (like thousands)of .npr file in the data folder. I assume these are message bodies. Can I just delete them or will it screw the database even more.
(worse case is that I delete everything and download all the newsgroups and headers again if this is what you would recommend)

Thanks
Mike

npr's are just parts of dloaded files, if i dload nothing and they are still there i delete them manually.
There is an option "clear temp dir periodicily"

these are message bodies but unless you intentionally leave them they are deleted automatically.

if you invoke partial menu->delete partials with missing parts for all newsgroups (there is also automatic option it is checked by default) newspro will delete all such bodies (bodies of incomplete partials with missing parts, if there are headers without bodies but the partial is complete so the remaining bodies can be downloaded - such bodies are not deleted).

afterwards you can create a global filter 'messages' 'are' 'with bodies' to see what is left (if you delete all bodies there all .npr files will be gone).

if you've deleted .npr files manually newspro will show the headers as having bodies, to synchronize this you need to reset the database or if database backup is enabled to kill newspro and then restore the database.
