Cross Posts

Post by EdA »

Hi.

Is there any way to supress cross posts so that I only see the article (binary) once, no matter how many of the groups I'm subscribed to.

Cheers.

Hello,

I put groups that are similar in a folder to create a virtual group. That way I see the posts only one time. For instance, I put alt.binaries.movies, .svcd, .vcd, (and all similar video groups) into one folder called movies and open the folder. That way I don't miss any posts, but only see them once.

In fact crossposts are handled transparently.

If you delete such a post - it will be deleted everywhere, if you mark it for download or cancel download - it will be reflected in every group. Also you can use folders as pointed out in the previous post to open several newsgroups in one window.

I know about the 'virtual group' concept, but at what point is the filtering applied.

If I make a 'virtual group', download headers using that group, close it, and then open each group individually, will I see the same posts in each group, or were they filtered out at the download stage.

Cheers.

You see it in every newsgroup but for newspro it is the same - if you do something in one newsgroup - it will be reflected everywhere, e.g. you cannot download such messages twice.

so if you marked it for download in one newsgroup, then you closed it and opened another newsgroup containing the same messages you'll see them marked for download.
