NP Crashes I get this once or twice a week (sometimes 2 a day)
I was running solid on this old AMD 333 Windows 2000 for way over a year.
Ran, the memory test on the first computer, reported memory was corupted, when NP crashed.
Corrupted memory
What the memory test does ( http://www.usenetopia.com/MemTest.zip ) it writes to the memory and then reads the data and verifies that the data is still the same.
It is very clear that if the memory changes arbitrary by itself crashes will result.
The cause may be defective or incompatible memory (if you have several chips remove them one by one and try to run memtest to find out what chip causes the problem), if you have programs that may mess with memory (memory optimizers/accelerators) they may cause that although I don't have any specific consistent data (in the past it was mostly faulty or incompatible memory, once 1.5 years ago I installed incompatible memory myself and it crashed 1-2 times a day until I replaced the memory), as to the old system who knows, a memory chip contains millions of transistors, some transistor stopped working and there is a non-working bit somewhere, when it is used for a pointer you get a crash.
