Q: How to clear SEARCH "Subject:" line buffer?

Q: How to clear SEARCH "Subject:" line buffer?

I'm used to Firefox where I can shift+DEL & the highlighted url will erase from buffer/file. Since that doesn't work, how else? I could manually edit file, if I knew which file it is + location.
