usenetserver and XPAT
I just signed with usenetserver as the new pricing is attractive and astraweb has been hit & miss all the time I've used them. I read some posts that they now accept searches on MSG-ID. Does anyone know if that means that usenetserver can be treated the same as other servers that support XPAT? i...

You don't say whether it always takes a long time or if it's just the first attempt to download headers. Consider your old usenet reader... It will probably only attempt to download new articles since the last time you connected. With a new usenet reader it will ask for all and this can be a huge am...

Wouldn't the time for each item be required to be collected and parsed to achieve this? Otherwise, when messages are deleted the sum would be wrong. The overhead might be considerable as it's not a 'yes/no' type field that needs to be stored. Having said that; if it could be recorded at header/body ...
