Aye, okay Alex, thanks for all the info. Hopefully UNS will get their SSL act together and it'll be a moot point soon.

Sorry for not getting back before now, I have a bad flu.

So, from what you are saying, there's no way to make UE stick with a top priority server for, say, 5 total recoverable tries, one every 30 minutes, over 2.5 hours, and only after failing all of those then try the next lower server?

only 5 retries matter, after exhausted it will try a lower preference server. But, unless I'm misunderstanding, that's not what is happening. Even though I have it set to 5, it's goes to the next lower preference server after only a single failure (either that or it is trying 5 times immediately wi...

Okay Alex, thanks. I will increase the retries and the connection delay. However, I just want to add one more piece of information on this. For all this SSL testing I had set the tasks value to 0 for the non-SSL server. Normally I keep the non-SSL server set to 2 tasks but with a strict priority of ...

I'm getting various errors, all the ones that have been plaguing me on SSL: SSL read error, SSL connect error, actively refused, et al. UNS SSL is just a mess for me right now. (I'll contact UNS support about it once I get these kinks worked out.) Interestingly (and I obviously forgot to mention thi...

Auto-retrying issue

Even though this may be related to the SSL timeout issue (now resolved), it even more likely is due to a misconfiguration on my part. So I decided to start a fresh thread. While the SSL timing out is now working wonderfully, I'm continuing to have trouble with the automatic retrying. I suspect I jus...

I haven't been able to reproduce the crash, it happened to me just the once yesterday, but I'll be happy to try out ue08nov07 anyways.

I had one as well, and quite the shock it was. Just goes to show how reliable UE is. At the time I was definitely downloading using SSL. But when it actually silently CTDed I was just opening up a text article. Of course, with all the background threads it was just as likely unrelated to my actions....

So far so good. I couldn't get SSL to run for 5 minutes straight without getting stuck earlier. I've had at least seven connections freeze so far and all cleared, six of them with the error "Connection unexpectedly closed by the server", which is, I assume, the timeout. (And one was an &qu...

*nod* The good thing is since UNS is screwing up so badly with this issue at the moment, it's making it easy to test. Back months ago when this started for me it was so intermittent it was really hard to diagnose (and so I just didn't bother).

:) I checked the thread before you posted and was like "what happened?" Anyways, sounds good. I did get WinPCap installed before you said to hold on so I went ahead and checked with Ethereal (which is now Wireshark apparently, guess I missed a memo :)). Once stuck there are absolutely no p...

I've got ue05nov07 running now and am switched back to SSL. I'll let you know how things go. Edit: I've set the connect timeout to 60 and I'm sorry to say that I currently have all 3 allowed tasks stuck at 0% for about an hour. The TCP connections still show as active in netstat: secure.usenetserver...

alex, I've been continuing to look at this issue over the past months and I'm not certain any more that the blame should be on the firewall. You see, if I switch to the non-SSL server this stops happening entirely. It may "freeze" from time to time in the same way, but times out properly a...
