changed hard drive and now no downloads

Hi,

I installed a new drive, copied all my data over and input my serial number. I can search fine and I can import the necessary headers but nothing actually downloads. I checked to see if anything was checked that shouldn't be but nothing is apparent.

any ideas?

expand the newsgroup, check if you still have servers attached, if not invoke "attach all servers" if there are any, if not reenter your news server.

maybe antivirus kicked in, it scanned the settings directory while UE was loading settings and something went wrong, the ue db is self-containing so copying it shouldn't result in lost settings or anything else.

do you have any more certain idea what could cause that given your specific system configuration?

if settings like attached servers were lost and you have a chance try to start UE on the old hard drive to see if all settings are ok there. also you can try to reproduce it by copying only the settings directory elsewhere, then switching db to its parent directory and starting UE to see if something like that happens again, would be interesting to trace it to some third party software so i would have a better idea how this may happen.

Hi Alex,

I checked the servers and everyhting appears to be correct.

I did however install a new firewall as I couldn't find the disk for my previous install. So I've gone from f secure to mcAfree. I need to change back in any case, so I'll do that first.

I'll have a play around this evening with your other suggestions and let you know.

if servers are there when you invoke download you should see some errors in the task manager console or in the red question sign tab or tabs.

most likely firewall doesn't allow access, you probably will see connection timed out, cannot resolve dns or connection refused
