I use Giganews with 2+ years retention. I stupidly "Reset Header Range" for all my news groups. Some of the binary groups have 500,000,000 headers. I don't want to spend days downloading all those headers to get to the most most recent ones.
Is there a way to tell UE to start at some recent date, lie about the header range property, or just say "start over with just the headers from this time forward".
Thanks.
Skipping old headers
Re: Skipping old headers
Yes, just set small retention first and download headers. Then increase retention, it will ask if you want to redownload headers say no.
Also better download the current version on the site, in help menu->about v3.3b few days I improved code which narrows retention after observing search service downloading headers behaviour, they use similar code.
Or you can ignore the above, leave the retention settings and set "headers per server" first, after it downloads those headers clear the setting.
All those settings in edit menu->properties->newsgroups, you can set for the topmost "Default" item if the rest is set to "default"

Re: Skipping old headers
Thanks Alex. I tried setting the number of headers trick and everything is caught up. I just had to recognize that the count meant the "most recent" N headers.
I also turned off NNTP scanning in Avast as recommended in other threads.
Thanks for a great program and outstanding support.
