allthenewsgroups.com & Message-ID Direct

A service provider called allthenewsgroups.com told me they need a "group" command issued before a Message-ID direct command in order to retrieve an article. Does this make sense? I'm unable to retrieve articles from their servers using the Message-ID method. Instead I get a "403 Article does not exist - try joining a newsgroup first".

this is a non-compliant provider (among very few), so maybe the best way to go is not to use them at all, it is not clear what protocol they support, it is not nntp.

it could be written in such a way that after 403 error newspro would look what newsgroups the article belongs to and then join and try again (which is bad since it would affect all users using compliant servers), or to add another option to do it or not, the question then arises where it goes then

Thanks for the quick reply. I agree it's better not to use them. Just thought I would give them a try. I'm having great success with other providers.
