Hi, I'm trying out this program and I would like to know if there is an option to automatically append the newsgroup name to the default download directory.
For example, if my default directory is "c:\download" and I'm downloading articles bodies from alt.binaries.blah then the decoded files are automatically saved to "c:\download\alt.binaries.blah\".
Setting Download Directories
I'm using NewsPro for more than 10 months now, and I haven't seen option like that. Closest aproximation to default save directory (like Agent has) can be found in Properties|Watch/Auto tab, Default button, but it only applies if you first Add some previously created filter, then Browse to directory of your choice and then set that directory to Default. Also, if you invoke any of Download&Save items from article's context menu in newsgroup window, it will always open "select folder" dialog.
As far as I know, there is nothing similar to default "download&save" directory setting which can be found in Forte Agent. But then again, Alex is final authority when it comes to questions like these...
I personaly use detailed subdirectory structure, going from categories as first level folders in my D:\Download\ (music, movies, videos, etc..) then i create subfolder for each post by the name of movie, genre of music or type of broadcast which is to be saved there. And 90% of the time I use Watch/Auto filters for unattended processing (my personal favorite is to come home at night and find out few star trek episodes waiting for me to unrar and watch them

Config > Newsgroup > pick a group or folder you wish
on the bottom you have
Save: [ ]
click on browse point to the folder you wish file to be saved in
it'll place all file into that folder if you uncheck Ask
if ask is checked it'll ask you for a new folder within the folder
this only works if you download from the group tho not when you download from a sub folder with muti groups or a join Virtual group.
you can also set this for the subfolder so every thing within soandso1 subfolder is placed in c:\soandso1 while soandso2 folder is placed in c:\soandso2

Keyboard shortcuts... ( no mouse needed)
I use a little keyboard routine that makes life really easy for downloading LOTS of alt.binaries.ware* stuff & saving in INDIVIDUALLY named directories...
Highlight first (or best named file) and hit Ctrl-C to copy the header string
Highlight files for download using SHIFT & arrow keys
Hit Alt-L (= Download Later) & when prompted for directory...
Browse to appropriate location using arrow keys again
Hit TAB twice & SPACE for Create directory (repeat if necessary)
Ctrl-V to paste header string (trim as needed using HOME,END & Delete/backspace keys)
Hit RETURN twice to commit tasks
All keyboard & leaves all files in directories aptly named & ready for use/archiving - Cured my mouse based RST problem
Maked searching through archived stuff a pleasure
