One Server... multiple logins?

Post by msb »

Hi,

I need the ability to list the same news server multiple times, but with different username/passwords.

Each user is allocated a certain amount of downloads, so I need to login with multiple usernames to the same server... is this possible?

Thanks.

you need to use the windows hosts file and disable check for aliases in properties->general. also it makes sense to disable downloading headers from all but one accounts and making the rest of 'servers' message-id direct.

Thanks for he quick reply, alex! I forgot about the Hosts file... it worked like a charm!

Now, here's another question:

If each user on the server is only allowed 5GB per month and I am only allowed 4 simultaneous connections (per IP address, NOT per username) what would be the best way to maximize downloads without going over the 5 GB limit?

Can I set up a rule, or something, that disables a server if it downloads over a certain amount? I know that you can suspend a server when it returns a specific error (i.e. download*limit) but I want to suspend the server when the counter reaches a certain amount. The reason behind this is that my ISP (Earthlink) allows 5GB per 30 day interval at maximum speed. If you exceed that 5GB, you get throttled down to 64kb/sec until you get back under the 5GB limit.

So, you see... there will be no "error" returned, but I don't want to use the server when it gets over, say 4.9 GB, until I manually reset the counter or something.

Is this possible?

Thanks!
