Registration/License Question

Post by fenixrisingxl »

I just had a quick question regarding registering UE. When going to the purchase page, the Delivery Method column has the following listed below:

"Single user license with at least 2 years of upgrades."

Am I supposed to read this as having a two-year license to the program, like Newsleecher, or as having a lifetime registration to the program, with the developer promising at least two years of updates to the program?
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the site or this message board, and never had any experience with NewsPro, so I have no idea how that license program worked, either.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

there is no key validation server so nothing can prevent you from using the program as long as you want, but in any case your copy won't stop working.

with newspro it is life upgrades, but experiencing the very unusual amount work required to reflect usenet changes (and maybe hardware changes in the future), i've decided to avoid the pyramide like scheme to increase chances of sustainable development if there is need for it.

how it will be in reality i don't know, i only outlined the worst case, all may also depends on actual number of registrations, there is also a factor that for a binary downloader it is about 2 times easy to implement the same functionality comparing to a newsreader with full text support.

but in fact we don't know what will be in two years, faster connections and the progress in p2p technology (i worked in the security algorithms domain and i believe that even as to privacy the problem is resolvable) may shrink the usenet user base (at least as to binaries), you should remember that most difficulties in implementing newsreader clients are artificial and caused by inability of the nntp protocol to give a reasonable method on the server level for handling binaries and what is indicative here - overwhelming majority of usenet users are completely satisfited with binary downloaders.

although for classical music the usenet is the best (until i write something dedicated to the topic :) ).
