I'm trying to get the headers from a specifik group between the 19th and 20th November. In properties/Newsgroups I have set Retention/Dates to "19nov06-20nov06". All I get headers from after Dec 12.
With an other newsreader I can retrieve headers back from Nov 2nd in the same group so I think the headers are there. Do I need to set something else?
How do I get headers for specific dates.
Firstly, news server software (not news client) is not designed in such a way that it can just send you the headers between the dates you want. The only way UE can work is to download all the headers and then delete or expire the rest outside of the range you set. With this in mind, you will be downloading all the headers anyway so why not just do set the date range to sometime before the date you want and then put the date range into the 'Day/dates:' box in the Quick Filter bar?
Maybe you're wanting headers from a large group where you're trying to minimise the time or bandwidth of getting the headers. Either way, it's a server side limitation that's getting in your way.
As to why UE is not adhering to the dates you've set, Alex will have to answer that one.
