How to set a rentention period per server?

Post by nwl »

I'm currently on day 8 of the trial of UE.

Is there a way to set a retention period per server?
I can only find a retention setting per newsgroup.

My situation is thus:
My free primary server has a retention of 7 days.
My pay per GB fill server has a retention of 50 days.

If I set my primary server to highest priority and my fill
server to lowest priority, I will use the fill server only
when needed, thus keeping the $$ amount low.

I use NZBs a lot, and this works well, if the articles
downloaded are less than 7 days old, and so I get a speed
of around 1200k.

The problem occurs when I am downloading articles more than
7 days old. The speed drops to about 10k when UE waits to
receive "430 no such article" errors from my primary server for
each article. Depending upon the amount of articles, it can be
stuck like this for upwards of a hour before it will attempt to
download from the fill server.

I don't think I would have this problem if I could set a
retention of 7 days for my primary server and 50 days for my
fill server. UE could look at the date code for each article in the
NZB file, and if its older than 7 days, it could skip over the
primary server and download directly from the fill server.

Lots of other usenet apps have the setting in plain view in the
server properties.

So, is there a way to set a retention period per server in UE?

Thanks for any help.

If i'm understanding you properly, there's no method for a server to know how old an article is that you've imported via an NZB file.

Perhaps for those times that you try to download something that is not on your 7 day server, disable that server until the download is finished. that would temporarily bypass the long delay for it waiting for all of the 403 errors to kick it to the slower fill server.
