for 2 servers i turned of the 'headers' option in server properties
but UE still tries to download from both servers (in xpat search mode)
don't get headers not working ?
yes, because in xpat mode it always downloads headers from all attached servers, in newspro it was a separate option to do or not to do that, i just tried to minimize the number of options, since xpat is an 'easy' on headers command since it doesn't download much and it is logical one wants to get all possible search results, which means to use all attached servers.
you can detach servers then it won't use them in xpat as well, differently from newspro it only uses attached servers for the given group.

i prefer not to use xpat on the server from my provider
since it only accepts 3 connections
(and this server has the highest priority + strict)
and if i have 15 searchgroups it's doing xpat searches most of the time..
the second server i want to disable doesn't support xpat
not really a big problem, only filling the 'errorlog'
(and giving a red icon on the searchgroup)

detaching the server also disables getting body's from the serveryou can detach servers then it won't use them in xpat as well, differently from newspro it only uses attached servers for the given group.
I have exactly the same issue
Alex, do you have an update here ?
I've installed recently the latest UE to replace my newspro and now I see that the option "not to download headers" is still ignored when using xpat(same issue as DDX).
I didn't want to use the threads of my download server on searching.
Any chance this could be fixed ?

it is very old thread, since then we have indexing service which is much faster than xpat, why just not to use it.
and again xpat doesn't consume resources just takes a task slot and secondly you can detach the server from the xpat group so not to use it for xpat.
as it is easy to copy newspro options with UE because of different feature set we have already not less options than in newspro and even more features which are not in newspro might be added bringing additional options it is why i'm trying to keep only those options which are more useful in the practical sense.

If you don't want to make it an option, why not just letting UE respect the "Don't get headers" option from the server properties ?
My goal was to have XPAT search groups with an specific keywords, that would scan specific newsgroups and autodownload and save everything it would find automatically. Super handy automation (specially when you are on vacations, or when you want to download a whole serie for example...you can do it with one task)
I could still not find a way to reproduce this on UE.
Is there a way to create a recurrent search task using your index service?

in newspro the option to get xpat headers always was added by user requests, since then it appeared it is what users wanted, so in UE i only left this most demanded option since just there are not enough space to accomodate check boxes, the interface gets clogged and it is not good for new users.
with search service i cannot add recurrent automatic search until we have a hosting with high enough upload speed, i tried to talk to some usenet providers but it is frankly like talking to a wall.
what i suggest if you look only for latest headers try to limit the number of headers to look for, usually xpat is much faster then. does your download server limits the number of connections so you cannot engage xpat from the server as well? xpat doesn't consume much bandwidth, the issue only the server delay in returning the results keeping the task slot occupied, otherwise no reason not to use all servers (also if you use the rest only you may get incomplete results since the servers may not have the headers your download server has).
