Help Notes and Navigation ?

Post by TheCow »

Several questions regarding UE from a long time NP user:

1. When I use the database pointer in the shortcut ("D:\Program Files\Usenet Explorer\UE.exe" "X:\UE Database"), I get an error (D:\Program Files\Usenet Explorer\UE.exe " "X:\UE.txt not found.) when I open the Help Notes. I move UE.txt to X directory but I still get the same error. Do I make the shortcut correctly ?

2. How do I use the Navigation at File->Navigation ? It seems nothing happen when I try to use it.

3. What does Star (*) mean at the top right Folder or Newsgroup in the Workspace window ?

So far I am impressed with the performance of UE. Things that need minutes to be done with NP can be done in seconds with UE flawlessly.

Thank you for you help.

i see it now, apparently noone tried to invoke help notes from a non-default instance, i'll fix it.

the navigation menu is for newsgroup views, but it is not intended to be used directly from the menu, just it shows default shorcuts which you can customize (the rightmost downward arrow button on the toolbar), if i didn't put them there the option wouldn't appear in the customize dialog (it is also the reason why there is default toolbar menu), just it is how the third party graphic library works.

the star means (like in an editor when you change the file) that the newsgroup has changed comparing to its disk image, if you invoke 'save' for the newsgroup or 'save all', the star will disappear (but if you e.g. download newsgroup headers in the same time it will reappear right away since the newsgroup is constantly changing then).

Thank you for the very fast response.

Does the Navigation buttons only work when the Headers List window is active ?
My intention is to use the Navigation buttons to read the next message (download then open next message) while reading article without going to Header List window. It will be very convenient for reading text messages.

I notice that the Navigation buttons creates an orange box surounding the header but it does not change the selected header.

Once again thank you for your help.

there are shortcuts so you can use the shortcuts or with customization you can add custom buttons e.g. on the toolbar.
