Is there a way to stop auto detaching servers
Is there a way to stop auto detaching servers
Im Subscribed to newshosting and tonight downloading headers for music and it detached the biggest (of course) group.
Is there Anyway to get it back without downloading all headers again. Tried the retry in the header error pane - nothing happened
Anyway to stop UE detaching servers full stop ??

but it means server replied that it doesn't have such a newsgroup.
the option can be added the question why it happened though, only one time? what does their support tell?
it is not a big problem to add the option, but if it is a one time error maybe no need to do anything (sometimes e.g. you may get corrupted xover data from the server and you need to download headers again or server changes article numbering, the same story, so there are other buggy situations when there is no other way but to redownload headers, the question is how often, about such a problem i hear in the first time).
if you want to reattach the server you can use advanced->attach all servers or from the context menu of the server new->server. the problem the header range will be lost since the newsgroup has been detached, so it will download headers anew from the server (but you don't need to reset the newsgroup, it will just redownload headers retaining existing headers intact).

This is about the second time now. Both were BIG Groups (sigh )
it had the error 411 - server no such group (it has for definite)
Like I say its a shame to lose the lot, (more annoying if I was on dialup. Thankfully not) but that's life, in the end just added it again and went for headers. I was just wondering if UE had the option that's all.
Could be some spooling getting sorted on their end I believe. More retention

RE: Change Priority of suspended "articles pane" i
Hi Alex,
I to would like to see Usenet Explorer have an option to Not detach servers from a Group if a group is not found or is not available at the moment.
Just make a prefrence setting that gives you that choice.
I remember that NewPro had that option and I used it because many free/open servers can get dropped from a group when they are not reponding or reponding very slowly.
Thanks,
J.P.

here is what they replied, could you check it (you can send me a private message if you like):
Hello. We can look into the cause of the problem but we would need to know:
a) The group
b) The front-end server the user is hitting
It would be helpful if the user could do a :
Start->run->cmd <enter>
then..
telnet unlimited.newshosting.com 119
and see which front-end (feXX-unl).

Is there a way to stop auto detaching servers
Hi Alex,
A good example of why I would like to stop auto detaching of servers is because some free news providers also provide paid services. As a free user they limit the groups that you can access. If you issue a group command the server will respond with a "group not found" response and Usenet Explorer will drop that server from the server list for that newsgroup.
If you ask for an article by message ID without issuing a group command many servers will happily locate the article and download it to you regardless of you status with that server.
I won't name the servers that cooperate in that way but there are many servers that will help you out if you ask them in the right way.
Does that help explain better why we would like a way of stopping the auto detaching of servers?
Thanks,
Poma5

Well alex I haven't had the 411 error since this thread began. Still get 10061 quite a few times as of late, but I just retry those and they seem to resolve themselves eventually.
Moving Off Topic here, one question I would like to ask. Why can I actually copy and paste an article downloaded in the Proper Named Group, but can't do it to the articles in the Downloads Tab In The Task Manager. ?

maybe not to add it then
are there still any free random servers around?
task manager is different view with different underlying code, so e.g. if one wants the copy option it should be added separatedly, i mean i'll copy the code from the newsgroup view or will make and call a common function but the handler will be different.

Go on add itmaybe not to add it then
That would be very handy indeed . The ability to use copy and paste in the download tab on the task bar. ( No searching separate groups, switching on filters etc.. , all articles downloaded in one easy to reach tab in the task manager - nice.. )e.g. if one wants the copy option it should be added separatedly, i mean i'll copy the code from the newsgroup view or will make and call a common function but the handler will be different.
