help!

hi ive been using UE for a while now and and until last week i cant seem to get a connection faster than 70KB

i am using ngroups which supply my connection to the newsgroups with unlimited bandwidth

i have a 2mb adsl connection

can anyone shed any light on my situation?

in UE itself there is no limit or bandwidth bottlenecks unless you set them in edit menu->properties->tasks, limit bandwidth.

so check first it is not something on your computer, whatever may mess with the connection.

then ensure the connection to your newsserver is not too slow, if server gives you choice of several ports try to use alternative ports.

also try to download headers from news.microsoft.com (free server) from a number of large newsgroups simultaneiously (download newsgroup list first and subscribe to newsgroups with largest article numbers like microsoft.public.windowsxp.general), at least here it gives the max connection speed and it looks like the server is fast enough to saturate 2mbps. if the microsoft server is much faster and your server is slow it means it is the server to blame.

several months ago a bug was reported when on 20mbps connection while downloading at full connection speed the program showed wrong speed value in the status bar because of integer overflow in byte counter, so i had to fix it, i mean the program itself doesn't impose any speed limit.
