Hi,

I have been trying to find a solution to my problem for a while now, but even after starting totally from scratch, I am still having issues:

I have a "group", with some of the BIG BIG newsgroups (alt.binaries.dvd - alt.binaries.movies - etc.), and if I select them individally, and start "Get New Headers", then no problems. But, when I select the whole "group", and "Get New Headers", after a few minutes, the "Commit Charge" in "Task Manager" is well above 900M. The PC only has 512Mb of physical RAM, and a PF of 2GB. There is a whole bunch of disk activity, and eventually (even leaving it alone for 2-3 hours), I have to kill the "ue.exe" process, and start over. Of course it then repairs the DB, and I have to select the newsgroups individually.

I have no problems opening up the entire group, and I can easily search across them all in one go. The only issue is when I "Get New Headers".

I wonder if there is something I have not set up correctly in the setup? And, please, all the newsgroups are already "Compact Binary".

there is "max group" settings in properties->tasks, check how it works in help notes on ue webpage.

it limits the number of loaded groups at the same time.

memory consumption is proportional to total group size, so by loading more and more newsgroups you will increase RAM consumption proportionally.

in UE the memory consumption is much lower than in other programs under high load (usually the limit in other programs is about 12MB per newsgroups, with UE I checked it can load newsgroups as large as 150M header) but it doesn't mean you cannot exhaust 512MB (or about 300-400MB of usable RAM after reducing system and other programs memory usage).

you can also add more RAM, i think 2GB kingston kit check newegg.com i think below $90, but even adding another 512MB ($30 or so) will increase your available to processes memory about 3 times.

also if you mark a lot of files for download memory consumption will be higher since for files marked for download it also loads message-ids into memory.
