Limit RAM usage "stuck" at 300?

Post by willko »

Hi Alex

Just curious really as performance is great with 3.04,.. but I can't help but feel like sometime with a recent UE update my "limit RAM usage" has been throtled at 300...?

Have you some new methods at work here?

My rig has 16GB RAM so I was wondering what factors might affect the 300 cap?

As I said before all is just great with UE, as usual - just curious as I could have sworn at one time I had 2000 in there or something similar... :?:

:EDIT: Just noticed there's 2 "Limit RAM usage" entries,.. Tasks & Save/Unpack (300 & 1000 seem to be max values?) - Are these related and are there any performance sensitivities to be aware of?

Thanks for your time

What is stuck? You cannot change the setting?

It is only the size of the buffer UE is mainly using for par2 repairs.

With a larger buffer the number of passes may be less, but due to the nature of repair bytes read will remain the same, only the number of seeks will be affected, so 100MB setting is quite ok.

Moreover when no par2 repair in progress - the buffer won't take RAM, even when par2 repair it may take less RAM than the max bufer size if repair doesn't need all of it.

Total UE RAM consumption mostly depends on the amount of loaded headers in newsgroups.
