How do I decrease my memory.
When I have Newspro running, all of my memory is almost gone.
I Have 512 Mb
Please help.
Thanks
Memory freeing
newspro doesn't consume memory directly; if you minimize it you'll see the memory usage drop to a small value.
to minimize the memory usage you need to introduce retention or last headers in properties->newsgroups (so not to contain all that server has since the power of personal versus server computer is incompatible and client interface is even requiring more memory than server functionality). last headers (e.g. 150000) is preferable to retention (e.g. 1-7 [days]) since it is faster in the first time.
it is good to have at least 512MB.

Alex, I don't think it's necessary that NewsPro uses all the memory it does. For most operations, the entire database of headers does not need to be kept in memory. If you think about it, the only things that *really* need to be kept in memory are:
1. stuff that's currently displayed on the screen, and
2. Tasks that are currently being run (not just the ones that are pending)
The rest *could* be kept on disk. Of course, if you went to this extreme, NewsPro would become bogged down by too much disk access. However, I think there must be a happy medium which would allow NewsPro to run nicely on a 256MB machine that keeps a large collection of headers.
Do you have any plans to drastically reduce the amount of memory that NewsPro demands?
I have a 512MB machine and am unable to run moderately heavy memory-intensive programs (e.g. Freenet, which really *needs* about 150MB) while running NewsPro.
Thanks,
-Martin
