I recently built a new computer and reinstalled Newspro 3.79. I imported my newsgroups and server lists without a problem.
However, when I download headers, I get an odd and repeatable pattern: I go from full speed (about 3mbits/sec) for about 45 seconds, then to dribbles (about 40k/sec) for about 2 minutes, then the pattern repeats. I use DU meter, and the graphic looks like a clear pattern.
Any ideas why this would happen on my new computer but not the old?
Fluctuating header download speed
you can change the pattern (if it is newspro) in properties->tasks, prevent overload if you uncheck it or increase the threshold.
if newsgroups are closed when newspro downloads headers incorporating them into the database will be somewhat faster since there is no need to synchronize views with incoming streams of headers.
also (truism) the slower computer the slower will be processing incoming headers, so maybe to check benchmarks that all is ok with hardware, if in comparison it is worse than it used to be before.
