Please help

Post by aida »

hi I believe that thread may be getting a bit puffed out and swollen too much. So I decided to open this one. It's a different topic but somewhat similar.

This is a really big and important question and so far I'm REALLY messing up,
It is about XPAT
1.It is about Wildmat again
2.I am not typing in my Wildmat search info correctly. It's still due to ignorance on my part.
3. I need to give example to explain
4. It appears, from my own practise of XPAT, that there is a major difference between looking for a posters's unique "username" and commencing an XPAT search utilising from ________ (In the Wildmats Box)
5.What precisely do you type in when you wish to tell XPAT you want to look for a poster who is identified as greencrow (username)?
6. The reason I say this is because it doesnt seem I am doing something right

hi will somebody help me? Please I just beg you, here. Its mighty important. Well whats going on now is this.....It's about my XPAT. I can't find any reference on my question I'm about to type in. I've got two XPAT searches going on two different servers. The little bar graph shows the blue line (bar graph) It shows activity. I certainly realise that even searches like I am doing may not pull up anything but my concern is this...My ISP is Comcast Online Cable Modem service. Whilst my search is going on (which is now) the last few days the bandwidth thingie at the bottom has been one minute at 0.000 then it flips up to like 0.161 then it'll go to 0.251 then occasionaly to 0.557 You see where I'm getting? MY Cable Modem Operations (Speed and Everything are all in good working order) There is nothing wrong, here. Does this mean that my copy of NewsPro is defective and that the software is not performing the job it is supposed to? What options does the customer then have if this is the case? Please write back soon.

Most of us don't have any problems with the XPAT so we are having a hard time understanding you at times. When you issue an xpat command to a newsserver, the search is done ON the newsserver and no data is being tranmitted until it finishes the search. This is why the bandwidth often dips to 0.

To find a specific author, you make the xpat group as usual. When you get headers in the dialog box, you select 'from' in the field box, instead of 'subject'. For you example, you type in greencrow in the wildmats box, making sure substring is checked. You also need to make sure the groups that you want to search are in the newsgroups field.

But what I dont understand is this.....Ok Before installing Newspro, I was using Outlook Express configured with the default usenet account that comes with my ISP account (in this case Giganews) and also a private usenet provider,Newsfeeds. Both of these accounts are,at this very moment, operational, able to be fully utilised and functional on Outlook Express.... Now..Both accounts are also configured (now) for Newspro. They are functional, operational and being utilised within NewsPro everything EXCEPT for the XPAT feature. It is not functioning properly.Reason one is that socket error I just mentioned. This is something that..please,please,ya'll there must be someone who can get me on the right track here or can get me to the proper refund department of NewsPro....Hopefully, (i'm really REALLY hopeful) I can fix this somehow. My second issue is that. I am not REALLY sure if that is the ONLY thing wrong with XPAT because the "running" indicator sometimes just flat out turns off by itself whilst in the middle of a search. I also get error messages that pop up in the task manager seemingly in the middle of an XPAT. These XPATS I run em about as long as I can run it. It usually has to go at least 24 hours but the thing is I don't see any indicators whether the thing has looked and INDEED actually found 0 (nothing) after 24 hours of working OR whether it just conked out at some point and just plain stopped working halfway through the cycle. I need help. I'm telling you the truth I need help bad. Is there anyone here that can help me with this thing?

With Everybody talking about nearly the same thing (speed issue) sounds like somethings wrong with the NewsPro. If there anyone that knows hows to fix this? Or can it be fixed?

My Xpat's work perfectly and take minutes.. not hours. Outlook Express does not have this function so that is comparing apples to oranges. You need to put in here.. what you are doing.

1. What is in the wildmats field.. (copy and paste it in the forum).
2. What is in the newsgroups field (copy and pasted it in the forum).
3. What is in the field to search field.. just type it in.

If you are doing a very complex search, the newserver will be doing so much work that the connection will time out sometimes.

Hi My searches are pretty concrete and specific as XPAT searches go... dog or cat ot bird (something to that efect) I have 256 RAM on my computer with Windows XP Pro. I just dont understand why I am having this problem. When I first began utilising XPAT (very recently you remember) I made a cuople of A -OK- searches. They worked fine. Now less that two weeks into purchasing my product here I am with XPAT not working giving me this"NewsPro-unknown socket error. I am certainly more than willing to shift the focus of my problem to Newsfeeds (My Usenet News Provider) should this error be caused by them. I also admit freely I'm not a computer technician nor do I have expertise with servers. I do know this though, I have been working with personal computers for ten years now. I am good at reasoning using logic and deduction. From the data I am observing this appears to be a NewsPro issue especially since the error reads NewsPro-unknown socket error. I wish to fix the problem but I believe it it is beyond my comprehension. I need to correspond with alex. I do not understand why, email after email that I send, I get no reply back. Is there anyone here that is experienced enough in the NewsPro software to explain to me how such an error as I described here can be fixed? Thank you

Because you are not giving us specific information and just saying it doesn't work. I spelled out 3 pieces of information to give us earlier. When you emailed me screen shots, alex got to the root of it quickly, but you can just paste the field here without screen shots and get to the same end. The problem you had before was not putting newsgroups in the newsgroups field, but putting servers in the newsgroups field...
