yEnc error encoding?

Post by Niko-Fox »

Hiyas all!

Anybody here experienced yEnc encoding errors on UPLOADING files?

I make contributions in some binary groups and some users detected the same files being corrupted even when they are downloading them from different news servers.

My relevant settings in Properties/Post are:

Encoding attachments - yEnc
Subjects - Filenames in quotes [enabled], Append yEnc [enabled]
Split large messages - yEnc 5000 lines
Word wrap - 73 characters
Headers - User Agent [enabled]

Any suggestions?

This has happened to me, but I was able to read them back fine with NewsPro. I didn't think at the time to try and read them with something else as a check. It was probably version 3.3 or so.

Try to read them back with newspro, if it gives an error - it was corrupted somewhere on its way, you cannot tell where, if you experience the same with different servers with the same probability - the source of the problem may lie in your computer (firewall or don't know what), otherwise it could be a server problem, probably at the moment.

The same code is used in power post build 3 (it was me who made this modification more than a year ago), i saw a lot of posts with it and no complaints.

Some people mentioned about the line count before. Some said 3750; some said 3500. I also use PowerPost.

if the posts don't get through (server limit) you can adjust (reduce) the line count in properties->post - there are separate settings for yEnc and the rest, just if something got through you better repost with a different subject.

what can cause a problem say you posted something with 3750 in settings for yenc, then you change it to 3500 and repost them with the same subject; if the number of parts in a reposted part is the same (which is possible) as in the original part - parts from different posts will mix.

also check noone attacked your post (you posted once but in headers you see duplicates which as you see in their headers are of different origin), in this case it is still likely newspro will decode them.

Works fine now!

I guess the critical setting in properties/post is the split large messages adjustment:
Entering a value of 2500 lines instead of 5000 did the job!

Thanks everyone for the hints!

Yenc

Post by Billybob »

Hello Everyone, I been doing the Newsgroup thing for several years while using NewsPro, free-Agent, and MS Outlook Express. I love Newspro because it does so much with little effort  . Anyway, when I first started using Newspro free version on my Win98 computer to download the Yenc files, I noticed that I had to save all my Yenc files as a text file and then use the Yenc program to decode the files. Now I am using NewsPro 3.62 (paid version) with my new WinXP computer, only this time all my downloaded Yenc files are automatically decoded. Things are getting better all the time  . What I want to know is, what is decoding the Yenc files, WinXP or Newspro 3.62? :?:

Many thanks to NewsPro.

The free version of NewsPro does not handle yEnc files so far as I know. It is an older code set and lacks many of the newer features, including yEnc support (yEnc came out after the free version).

The ability to decode yEnc was added in 3.1 or somewhere around there.
