TaskManager - Suddenly error tabs are blank

Post by paustin »

<sigh>
I just switched to NewsFeeds, and now have all these servers to manage. I've been playing around trying to get the priorities, direct messages, etc, working the way I want. I must have done *something*.

In Task Manager, all the error tabs are blank, and I KNOW I'm getting errors. I get the popup for 'download limit reached', and I see empty progress bars, so i know I am getting server messages.

Pray tell, what will let me see the error messages?

I do thank you in advance,
Pete

probably you set some wrong expression in properties->general, exceeding download limit so it gets triggered, clear the 'suspend server' edit box, if all starts working - adjust the expression (with the empty 'suspend server for' it is ignored), the default value is "download*limit"

Still stuck

Alex,

Thank you, as always, for your speedy reply.

I have cleared both the 'Exceeding download limit' and the 'Suspend server for' box. No change. Now i have a lot of empty progress bars (because i know I have exceeded the limit), but no errors are showing up on any of the error tabs. Other suggestions?

maybe it is timeout caused by the firewall and eventually the tasks will finish with an error message, check newspro is allowed to access the servers.

I am certain that the servers are responding with errors. I suspect that it is a display issue. If I *do* fill in the 'Exceeding download limit' box, NewsPro *is* popping up the windows do say "Exceeded limit". Even though the Error tab is blank. So, it seems like NewsPro does see the error, but isn't displaying it.

NewsPro is able to access the servers, as it has been able to download enough to exceed the limit.

Also, I noticed that *some* messages are being written. On the Headers Error tab, there are some '502 Authentication', and '411 No such Group' errors.

Thanks in advance,
Pete

check the number of retries in properties->servers, if it is a recoverable error, it exhausts all retries before producing an error message (when you click the white bar you should see the attempt number growing, socket timeout is a recoverable error). if you reduce the number of retries the error in the error pane will be shown faster.

the default value for properties->general, recoverable errors is:

"too*many|limit|timeout"

If one server encounters an error but there are still other servers to attempt then you will see only a 'Mishap' in the Console window. NewsPro will move on to each server trying to download an article until it gets it. If it gets a Mishap on all servers then the final server will show as 'Abort' and the error on that final server will be reported in the Errors tab. You might have exceeded your limit on one server and so the article could not come from there, but the file may have been available elsewhere so NewsPro just moved along automatically.
