scan all groups

Post by telex »

Is it possible to scan all 80.000 - 100.000 newsgroups for a selected file with newspro??
For example : searching for a file with the name "S_L.rar" ?

most newsgroups are garbage, there is no 100000 useful newsgroups :)

there is a site http://alt.binaries.nl you can look there, then enter a pattern in a search xpat group (see homepage) and get what you need.

it is no probem to add thousands of newsgroups in a search group but it will be slow, I don't know how much time will take 1000 xpat requests, if you have a number of good servers you'll see results faster proportionally to the number of servers.

then use the newspro search groups. you can select newsgroups you need in a newsgroup list window (use copy from the context menu), you can sort them by number of articles to estimate which groups are alive (unless it is only a lot of spam).

Thank you Alex. I ask because of: there are groups that only created for poeple that know the name. Because only when you know the name you can dowload from.
Only picked user know the name foe example for movies...

if you just download newsgroup list from all servers, then you'll have all useful newsgroups in the list, no sense for a server to hide a newsgroup since then noone would know about it except for small number of users and it will be hosted only on that server since other servers won't know about it too.

I give you an example: alt.binaries.bloaf or alt.binaries.etc.

The name of these groups are not unequivocal and nobody knows that there are movies inside. I don't know why this is done this way?!

You could also try out Binnews.com . I checked their global database and they have those two groups listed, so if you searched for something and it were posted in one of those groups you'd get a match. They will add a group for you if it's not already covered (though all should be covered).
