can I upgrade UE versions with trial?

Post by kheldar01 »

hello
I'm a registered user of NewsPro since 2 years ago (very happy user indeed thanks Alex)

I'm not a frequent user on these forums tho, I think i wrote last message more than 1 year ago here :D

I recently upgraded NP to 3.90 and the program informed me about the newly released UsenetExplorer so I came here again (I forgot the password of the forum  ) and started reading all posts.
Basically, I read that all people here are pretty happy and impressed on UsenetExplorer performances; minor glitches and bugs having been fixed promptly and I read next step will be the implementation of filters (a must for me, without filters ,initial filters and watch in NP I'll be lost)

So i think it's my turn to check and test the new program (I really need something slim and faster) some newsgroups nowdays are really too big, newspro can still manage them well but resources used choke my computer (CPU expecially).

Ok stopping with all these words now, just need to know: if I download UE I should have 15 days of trial right?
So what if Alex will release a new version (i.e. in 10 days with filters I need to check or more bug fixes) while i'm on trial? Can I upgrade the trial with the new version and still complete the 15 days of trial I miss or not ?
I'm asking, cause other programs (no name  ) once you start the trial wont let you upgrade.

To make it short: 15 days of trial are full regardless of future upgrades in the meanwhile ?

Probably if UE is really like described I'll register, and I'll drop NP, but for now I need to test it 8)

actually ue trial doesn't use the windows registry and if you delete the database the trial is effectively reused, it is the only reason why the trial period is 15 days (but formally it is only 15 days as stated on the downloads page).

i don't have anything against newspro users using the trial repeatedly, but the property shouldn't be overused, since if everyone will reuse the trial indefinitely we won't have the project alive (i'm not planning to use the windows registry since i don't feel like to play the cat and mouse game).

adding permanent filters and related will take some time, since the internals and most of interface code should be written anew, but there are no urgent crashing issues and it is the next planned feature so it will be in the program in the next release. the volume is not small (the implementation time probably will be comparable with those features in newspro) but the task is relatively simple so you can count on it.

the main difference from newspro there will be no message filter dialog and all filters will go through the filter editor, as to views instead of message filter dialog one will be able to apply filters through a combo box (it may be revised at later point but i hope given the quick filter it is a satisfactory solution). also maybe no server filter for header views since it would be only actual for most expensive in terms of memory newsgroup types (as to newsgroup list i'm planning to put the server filter into the quick filter bar).

I dont wanna abuse the trial, dont worry :)
Just wanted try UE and 15 days are enough, but wanted try filters too, that's all. No doubt if program is good as all describe it, I'll register (I still think NP is one of the best program I registered , worthing every cents I spent, thanks again Alex)

if it will be available within 2 weeks (hopefully) all you need is to replace the trial executable.
