Ditto here. Getting the "Search failed. A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or".

I have been getting this one for the last 30 min.

And this is why I keep praising Alex for good work! I wish we had the same kind of feedback from Apple and MS.

I agree. But it just happens as I am still missing a few PAR files so I can get to see Golden Compass:)

For what it's worth, I've been getting that error also for the last couple of hours. Really annoying.

I am trying to use UE on my work PC, and I can download headers from GigaNews, using port 443 (SSL and open on our work network), but my searches are failing: Search failed - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time Is this a setup issue...

What about download speed? I understand it is a bit slower when downloading through SSL.

Hi,

Did you ever get this to work?

I am thinking of switching to SSL (w. Giganews), but I can wait if it is still requiring stunnel.

However, if it is just selecting SSL in UE, changing the port, and perhaps selecting a different server, then that is OK.

Hi, I have been trying to find a solution to my problem for a while now, but even after starting totally from scratch, I am still having issues: I have a "group", with some of the BIG BIG newsgroups (alt.binaries.dvd - alt.binaries.movies - etc.), and if I select them individally, and star...

Hi Alex,

First; thanks for the very prompt reply!

I think I understand your answer and have set my retention to 121d (Giganews has 120d).

However, I looked around and cannot find where to check if the groups are set to compact binary. Can you let me know here that is?

TIA

Hi, I understand what you mean with the 0% in the Progress View. But I mean the headers in the Subject View. I clear one newsgroup out, I reset the headers, right-click, and select "Get new headers". The number of headers increase, and after a couple of minutes, I select "Cancel get h...

Keeping partial downloaded header lists?

Apologies if this is already answered in another topic, but I looked around... I recently cleared out my header DB, it was getting slow and I wanted to move it to another HD anyway. So, I did, and now I am in the midst of downloading the headers in my selected newsgroups. However, some of these are ...

KB vs Kb vs MB vs Mb

Hi, I apologize for my ignorance, but please help me out here: In the lower left of the UE screen it says the current bandwidth is 329 KB/s, and I was just wondering if that is acceptable on a stated "2400 Kbit/s" connection? If I understand it right, then 2400 Kbit/s is equal to 307 KB/s,...

I have enabled the database backup, and should now go to -- file --> save database and restart? I know that PCs shouldn't crash, but when the CPU/RAM ration is set at 1:1, ad the FSB is running at 225, the RAM is basically trying to follow along at 450Hz, and it's only certified to 434Hz. It isn't a...

Crash in WinXP and NewsPro looses newsgroups and headers

Hi, I am a new user, and perhaps I have set something up incorrectly? After a great run of getting the newsgroup list, and the selected groups's headers I was downloading something just fine. However, my PC crashed, and after rebooting the PC I went into NewsPro to contiue my download. But, the news...
